The SchafbergBahn is Austria's steepest rack railway. It has been leading from St. Wolfgang to the 1893 meter high Schafberg since 1.783. In 35 minutes it overcomes 1.190 meters in altitude and 5,85 km. The nostalgic cogwheel steam locomotives are among the oldest in the world. Already during the journey there is a wonderful view of the Salzkammergut. When you reach the summit, the surrounding lakes sparkle and the view stretches from the Bohemian Forest in the north to the Alps in the south. The gate to heaven is not just literally waiting at the summit. The Himmelspforte is a cozy hut with a sun terrace. The Schafberg summit is also the starting point for wonderful hiking tours.
